Take the Next Step With ONF’s Support

The Oncology Nursing Foundation (ONF) is proud to continue investing in the future of oncology nursing. Applications for the 2026–2027 academic and conference scholarships will open on September 15, 2025.

Since 1981, ONF has awarded more than $33 million in funding to support oncology nursing education, research, and leadership development. These scholarships remove financial barriers, open doors for professional advancement, and fuel the passion of oncology nurses who are committed to making a difference in cancer care.

Academic Scholarships

For the 2026–2027 academic year, ONF will offer scholarships at the following levels:

  • Bachelor’s in oncology nursing scholarships—$3,000 each

  • Master’s in oncology nursing scholarships—$5,000 each

  • Doctoral scholarships—$7,500 each

These awards support registered nurses with a focus in oncology who are pursuing degrees that strengthen their knowledge, leadership, and impact.

For many, these scholarships are transformational. Stephanie Stoll, BSN, RN, OCN®, a master’s scholarship recipient from Seattle, WA, described how her award has helped her transition “from bedside oncology nursing to a leadership role in healthcare administration.” As both a nurse and a cancer survivor, she has witnessed disparities in care firsthand and shared that ONF’s support equips her to “drive systemic change, shape equitable policies, and develop technologies that personalize cancer screening and treatment plans.”

Nathan Watson, RN, MHA, NE-BC, a doctoral scholarship recipient from Idaho, echoed how ONF funding affects nurses and patients. “The ONF Academic Scholarship has helped me to realize my full potential in nursing and as a leader,” he explained. By completing his Doctor of Nursing Program with scholarship support, Nathan was able to partner with his employer to create solutions to the nurse staffing crisis. “Our work has empowered new graduate nurses to succeed and thrive in their first years of nursing, rather than face burnout, while also opening doors for them to gain experience with oncology patients. This generous funding has made a huge impact on our community workforce of nurses and the patients they serve.”

For Osborn Owusu Ansah, BSN, RN, a PhD student in Durham, NC, the scholarship was both recognition and motivation. “Receiving the Oncology Nursing Foundation Doctoral Academic Scholarship is a tremendous honor and a significant moment in my PhD journey,” he said. “It allows me to focus on my research without financial burden, fuels my passion to make a difference in patient care, and inspires me to contribute meaningfully to the field.”

These stories illustrate how ONF scholarships don’t only fund education; they empower nurses to innovate, advocate, and lead change in oncology care.

ONS Congress® Conference Scholarships

In addition to academic scholarships, ONF supports professional development through conference scholarships. These awards make it possible for nurses and students to attend ONS Congress, oncology nursing’s premier annual conference.

  • ONS Congress scholarships provide up to $2,000 for registration, travel, and per diem expenses.

  • The Ciera Boyle Student Nursing Scholarship supports nursing students with full coverage of registration, travel, meals, and a one-year ONS membership.

By removing barriers to participation, ONF ensures oncology nurses gain access to cutting-edge knowledge, professional connections, and experiences that strengthen the cancer care community.

Why It Matters

When nurses like Stephanie, Nathan, and Osborn talk about the ripple effects of their scholarships, it’s clear that these awards extend far beyond individual achievement. They strengthen the oncology workforce, expand opportunities for new nurses, and drive research and policy innovations. Most importantly, these scholarships help to improve the care patients receive.
