Radiation Oncology Certified Nurse (ROCN™) Exam Scholarship

Recipients receive funding to cover the ONCC ROCN™ Certification exam fee. The ROCN™ Certification exam is expected to be available in fall 2026.
Purpose: To support registered oncology nurses who specialize in providing care for adult or pediatric patients with cancer undergoing radiation therapy by providing funding support to cover the ROCN™ Certification exam fee.
Important Note: An individual cannot receive this award more than one time. Applicants must register and be approved by ONCC before funds are released. Proof of registration and approval will be required for fund disbursement.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for funding, applicants must be register and receive approval by ONCC for the exam, and must meet all of the following criteria.
Applicants must:
- have a current, active, unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the U.S., its territories, or Canada at the time of application and examination;
- demonstrate a minimum of two years (24 months) of experience as an RN within the four years (48 months) prior to application;
- demonstrate a minimum of 2,000 hours of radiation oncology nursing practice within the four years (48 months) prior to application, and
- have completed a minimum of 10 contact hours1 of nursing continuing education in radiation oncology nursing or an academic elective in radiation oncology nursing within three years (36 months) prior to application.
1 The contact hours must have been provided or formally approved by an acceptable accredited provider or approver of continuing nursing education (CNE) or nursing continuing professional development (NCPD). Up to five (50%) of the 10 required contact hours in radiation may be continuing medical education (CME) or continuing pharmacy education (CPE). Continuing education accredited via Joint Accreditation/Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) must specify hours awarded by ANCC, ACCME, or ACPE, to be accepted by ONCC.
Points to Consider
- Do not wait until the final day to start your application, as quality and competitive applications will take time to complete.
- Short essay responses should use proper grammar, syntax, and punctuation. Ensure you submit a detailed response and use the word count(s) to your advantage; conciseness and ability to fully answer the questions will be taken into account
- To strengthen your application, you can use free online tools, such as Grammarly, or have someone proofread it to ensure accurate spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
